If you have done your confined water (pool) training and want to complete your open water certification dives, this is a great opportunity. We will dive in several beautiful Florida freshwater springs. It’s an affordable and fun trip that won’t destroy your budget or require a lot of time off from work. Here is the schedule:
Thursday, May 8: travel to Gainesville, Florida (divers are responsible for their own travel, driving or flying)
Friday & Saturday, May 9-10: Dive at locations such as Blue Grotto, Devil’s Den, and Ginnie Springs
Sunday, May 11: travel home
Costs: $200 per person for a fun diver, $400 per person if you are doing your certification dives. Costs are based on double-occupancy hotel rooms. Single person rooms will incure a slightly higher rate. Your fee includes air fills, equipment use, admission to one dive site per day, and lodging at the Days Inn-Gainesville. You are responsible for your own transportation and meals.
Other Courses Offered: For divers who are already certified, we can also offer the Advanced Open Water course and a variety of other specialty classes on this trip.
Call New Horizons at 277-1234 for more information. Please come to the shop to pay for the trip in order to secure your place on the trip.
Has it been more than six months since you were diving? Are you going on a scuba vacation and the dive shop where you are going said you need a refresher or review course? This is a great way to make sure you are sharp on your skills and are ready to step off the back of the boat. Our one night Scuba Review is for divers who are certified at any level who want to refresh their skills and techniques before their trip. Why waste your first couple of vacation dives trying to iron out problems? Take this review with us and one of our Divemasters will lead you through a comprehensive knowledge refresher in the classroom, then take you to the UK pool for a couple of hours of water work. When you have completed the evening, you will receive a sticker for your certification card that shows you went through the program (see below). We can also certify that you completed the review in your log book.
Date & Time: Monday, May 19, 6:00pm - 10:00pm
Cost: $75 per person for one to three, $50 per person for four or more
Prerequisite: certified beginner diver from any scuba agency
We require advance payment to insure that the review will take place. Please come to New Horizons to sign up and confirm your scuba review. Thanks!
The Emergency First Response course teaches CPR (primary care) and First Aid (secondary care) as well as how to use an AED and oxygen for diving related emergencies. The skills you will learn are applicable in daily life as well as in scuba situations. This course is a prerequisite to the Rescue Diver class. And if it has been more than two years since you went through CPR training, you should take it again as standards are always being revised.
If you want to take this course, you must come to New Horizons to sign up and to get your workbook and a DVD. Participants MUST view the DVD BEFORE and complete the written Knowledge Reviews before the night of training.
Date: Wednesday, June 4th
Time: 6:00pm - 10:00pm
Location: New Horizons classroom
Cost: $75 includes course fee and workbook
Instructor: Ed Gabe
Hooray! The local diving season is here!
If you have already completed your Confined Water (classroom & pool) training, and are now ready to compete your Open Water certification dives, the time has come. Through Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8, you will complete four dives under an instructor’s supervision. During those dives, the instructor will have you demonstrate the skills you learned in the pool. If you can successfully complete the skills and show that you are comfortable and capable in the water, you will receive your PADI Open Water certification.
Here are the details:
Dates: Saturday June 7 & Sunday June 8 (you must attend both days)
Times: start at 9:00am each day, ending early afternoon.
Location: Falling Rock Park, LaGrange, KY (click for their website).
Click here for a map & brochure about Falling Rock Park.
Cost: $200 (includes use of scuba kit, tank fills & certification card). You supply your own mask, fins & snorkel.
Additional costs: $40 entry fee (CASH ONLY) paid to dive site (covers both days), transportation, snacks.
SPECIAL FOR THIS WEEKEND ONLY: Since this is the “opening” weekend for us at Falling Rock Park for the summer, store owner Neil McEachin and his family will host a cookout (no charge) on Saturday the 7th for everyone in attendance!
Other things to know: You should come to New Horizons before 5:00pm on Friday the 6th to pick up your scuba gear for the weekend. Students are responsible for bringing their own gear each day and must return the equipment to New Horizons by 5:00pm on Monday the 9th. It takes an hour and a half minimum to get from Lexington to Falling Rock Park in LaGrange, so give yourself plenty of drive time each morning. Falling Rock Park does not have much in the way of facilities other than some port-o-johns, so bring your own snacks and drinks. Also bring a towel or two, a change of clothes, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a beach chair if you want, etc. Once you finish your last training dive on Sunday, you will be able to continue diving with a buddy as a newly certified diver!
