Try Drysuit Diving with DUI Demo Days Oct. 4-5

One of the most popular annual events returns to Mermet Springs this fall:
DUI Drysuit Demo Days!!!!

Join us on Saturday, October 4th and/or Sunday, October 5th and try out as many different DUI Drysuits as you want! No drysuit experience is necessary - DUI provides fitting, instruction, and a guide for your dives (if you wish). There simply isn’t a better way to try drysuit diving! If you buy a drysuit from DUI through New Horizons within 6 weeks after the event, you will receive upgrades worth $220 to $240 on a stock or select suit.

The event is taking place at Mermet Springs, located just outside of Metropolis, Illinois. Mermet is a large freshwater quarry that boasts a wide range of depths, lots to see underwater (including a Boeing 727 airplane), and very good water clarity. It’s about a four hour drive from Lexington, and you can camp at Mermet or there are inexpensive hotels nearby.

Admission to Mermet Springs is $20 per diver, $5 per non-diver, and $5 to camp overnight.

Tickets to the DUI Demo Days event are $8 in advance (purchase at New Horizons). Lunch is included on both days with your DUI ticket, and you also receive a DUI hat.

Come to New Horizons soon to sign up for the event and get your ticket. You can click here to contact Instructor Ed Gabe with additional questions about the event or about DUI drysuits in general. We hope to see you at Mermet staying warm in a DUI drysuit!

Peak Performance Buoyancy: October 14 & 18

PPBpool

Want to fine-tune and develop precision buoyancy control skills, learn new propulsion techniques, and vastly improve your comfort in the water? Then the Peak Performance Buoyancy course is for you. Whether you are a beginner or a diver of many years, this class will surely give you many new tips and tricks that will increase your diving skill. You will learn good body posture, proper weighting strategies, and develop the ability to make small moves in depth and position with minimal effort. These skills are a “must” for photographers and those who love to look closely at the reef without touching or causing harm. The dives in this course will even be filmed and reviewed so you can see exactly what you do well and what you need to work on.

The course takes place in two sessions:
Tues., October 14: 6:00pm - 9:00pm New Horizons classroom
Sat., October 18: 9:00am - 4:00pm at Falling Rock Park in LaGrange (open water dives)

Prerequisite: Open Water Diver or other beginner scuba certification
Instructor: Ed Gabe
Course fee: $150 per person
Additional costs: tank fills, admission to Falling Rock Park ($20), transportation
If you need a scuba kit, rental for the open water dives is included; all you need is your own mask, fins & snorkel.

No textbook or advance preparation is required, and there is no written test. If you show improvement through the open water dives and can demonstrate controlled hovering, refined propulsion techniques, controlled ascents and descents, and good team awareness, you will be awarded the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy certification at the end of the course; this counts toward your Master Scuba Diver rating.

Click here to send an email to Ed Gabe if you have additional questions.

If you want to sign up for the course, simply come to New Horizons to pay the fee and register.
