E-Learning provides the knowledge development portion you need before coming to New Horizons to develop your diving skills with our knowledgeable PADI Instructors.

The PADI Open Water Diver Course E-Learning Portion is $120 (US) nonrefundable, paid directly to PADI. The fee covers your knowledge development training and gives you unlimited access to an electronic version of the PADI Open Water Diver Manual (course textbook).

The Confined Water Course price for students who have completed the PADI E-Learning at New Horizons Diving is then $225.00 (this includes the student enhancement kit).

E-Learning provides the knowledge development portion you need before joining New Horizons to develop your diving skills with our knowledgeable PADI Instructors.

The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course E-Learning Portion is $120 (US) nonrefundable, paid directly to PADI. The fee covers your knowledge development training and gives you unlimited access to an electronic version of the PADI Adventures in Diving Manual (course textbook).

The in-water dives for students who have completed the PADI AOW E-Learning at New Horizons Diving is then $200.00. Additional costs, such as dive site admission fees, transportation, etc., will vary depending on when and where the dives are completed.

Project AWARE for Kids: Saturday, Feb. 4

Join instructor Bill Conrad and members of the New Horizons staff on Saturday, February 4th from 1:00pm – 4:00pm for some special aquatic environment education and fun especially for kids! Project AWARE organizes fun “missions” for kids that engage them in hands-on learning and fun in the water. Digital Underwater Photography: Feb. 7 & 9

Have you ever wanted to capture those exciting moments of your dive trip to take home with you? With the Digital Underwater Photography class, students will learn the basics of underwater photography to help improve their photography skills. Topics include underwater housing prep and care, proper exposure, strobe use, white balance, as well as other tips and tricks. The course is taught by Divemaster Jim Leemhuis, one of the most experienced and talented photographers on staff. The course takes place over two nights: first, a classroom session covering underwater photography techniques, critical tips, and digital photo editing lessons. The second night is focused on putting your new skills to work in the pool with Jim coaching you on the in-water techniques. This course is even more comprehensive than the basic PADI class because Jim even provides you with your own tutorial DVD with interactive video on photography techniques and photo editing!

Don’t own an underwater camera? No problem! New Horizons has complete cameras for rent for students who are taking this course. For $50 you will have use of an underwater camera for the course. Just let Jim know that you need one.

Dates & Times:
Tuesday, Feb. 7th, 7:00pm – 10:00pm: Classroom session
Thursday, Feb. 9th, 8:00pm – 11:00pm: Diving & photography session
Prerequisite: Open Water Diver or other beginner scuba certification
Course fee: $225 for two or more students, or $325 for individual private lessons. Add $50 to rent a digital underwater camera for the course.

Included with Course: PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Guide (textbook) and slate, custom digital underwater tutorial DVD with GIMP photo editing software, PADI certification card, and scuba kit rental.

Required Personal Equipment: Mask, Fins, Snorkel, Personal Digital U/W Camera

Suggested to Bring to Classes: Personal digital camera instruction manual, laptop computer (PC) to practice photo editing. Free photo editing software, GIMP, will be supplied to use.

Our weekend class is composed of three sessions: Friday from 6:00pm – 10:00pm, Saturday from 9:00am – 5:00pm, and Sunday from 9:00am – 5:00pm.

Prior to class start, you will need to purchase a mask, snorkel and fins. You can be fitted for your equipment in our shop, and our staff will be happy to assist you.

*All other equipment is provided.

Required Materials:
You will be given a student kit as well as a DVD that must be returned.

Class Structure:
Friday night you will review chapters 1-3 as well as take quizzes based on the reading in those chapters. After the classroom work is finished, you will be fitted for equipment and the assembly will be demonstrated.
Saturday you will begin with reviewing chapter 4 and taking a quiz on chapter 4. You will possibly complete the review for chapter 5. We will break for a short lunch and then head to the pool to practice the techniques you learned.
Sunday you will begin with your final exam and then review the results. Any make-up quizzes or exams will be taken at this time also. We will break for a short lunch and then head to the pool to practice the techniques you learned.

**With all dives you will be supervised by your PADI instructor.

Please be sure to bring a notebook, pen/pencil, bathing suit and towel to all classes.

Scuba Review: Saturday, February 11

Has it been more than six months since you were diving? Are you going on a scuba vacation and the dive shop where you are going said you need a refresher or review course? This is a great way to make sure you are sharp on your skills and are ready to step off the back of the boat. Our one night Scuba Review is for divers who are certified at any level who want to refresh their skills and techniques before their trip. Why waste your first couple of vacation dives trying to iron out problems? Take this review with us and one of our Divemasters/Instructors will lead you through a comprehensive knowledge refresher in the classroom, then take you to the UK pool for a couple of hours of water work. When you have completed the evening, you will receive a sticker for your certification card that shows you went through the program (see below). We can also certify that you completed the review in your log book.

Scuba review

Time: 10:30am – 3:00pm
Cost: $75 per person
Limit: 6
Prerequisite: certified beginner diver from any scuba agency

Enriched Air / Nitrox: Thurs. Feb. 23

Nitrox
Breathing enriched air (nitrox) instead of air has several benefits, including longer allowable dive times, shorter surface intervals, and less decompression stress on your body. The course covers how enriched air is used, how to analyze the breathing gas, how to plan dives with it, and special equipment considerations.Click here to learn more on the PADI website. If you are working toward your Master Scuba Diver rating, this course counts as one of your five specialties.

Class time: 6:00 – 10:00pm at New Horizons
Cost: $125 includes course fee, textbook, and materials
Prerequisite: PADI (beginner) Scuba Diver or equivalent from other agency

Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning 3/20/12

The Confined Water (beginner) class consists of 4 evening sessions, held twice weekly. Each session runs from 7:00pm – 11:00pm.

Prerequisites: None, other than a good level of swimming and water comfort, good health, and a desire to have fun!

Equipment Needed: Prior to class start, you will need to purchase a mask, snorkel and fins. You can be fitted for your equipment in our shop, and our staff will be happy to assist you. All other equipment is provided.

Required Materials:
You will be given a student kit (textbook, materials, etc.) when you come into the store to sign up, as well as a loaner DVD that must be returned by the end of the course.

Class Structure:
Most classes will begin with a lesson and quiz based on the reading from the text. After the quiz, you’ll head to the pool to practice the techniques you learned. You will need to have the first 2 chapters completed by the first night of class. The final exam will be given on the 4th night of class.

Please be sure to bring your student kit, a pen, a bathing suit and towel to all classes.
